Hopefulness and Leadership

Like most leaders, I think too much. I don't do this because research suggests that the best leaders are insecure. I do it because I care about whether or not I'm doing a good job.

After all, that's all that really matters.

We've all worked with the other kinds of leaders- you know, the ones who were known as "well meaning" but who didn't actually produce results.

When someone asks the really good leaders if they are doing a good job, the typically speak from a standpoint of hope.

"I can only hope that I'm doing a good job."

The fact is, most people are too close to their own roles at work to be objective about whether or not their doing a good job.

So pack on the hope, keep working hard and leave the heavy lifting to God.

"Work as if all depends on you. Pray knowing that all depends on God." (quote attributed to either St. Augustine or St. Ignatius of Loyola)
